Red Stag

The Red Stag, renowned for its impressive antlers and majestic presence, is a highly sought-after trophy for hunters.

The prime hunting season for red stag is during the “rut” or “roar,” which occurs from late March to late April. During this period, stags are highly vocal, making it easier to locate and call them in close.

Whether you’re a seasoned hunter or a novice, the combination of stunning scenery and abundant wildlife makes hunting red stag at Mount Cook Station a truly unique and memorable experience.

Himalayan Tahr

Hunting himalayan tahr is a thrilling pursuit for any avid hunter. These majestic creatures, known for their striking horns and manes and remarkable agility, inhabit the rugged alpine regions of New Zealand. The prime hunting season for himalayan tahr typically runs from May to July, when they are most active and their coats are at their thickest. The challenging terrain, including steep slopes and rocky outcrops, adds to the excitement and demands a high level of skill and endurance.

Fallow Deer

Fallow deer, known for their distinctive palmate antlers and varied coat colors, are a prized game species. At Mount Cook Station, you can immerse yourself in the thrill of the hunt while surrounded by the breathtaking landscapes of the Southern Alps and the serene Tasman River.

The hunting season for fallow deer typically runs from late February to late August, providing ample opportunities to track and hunt these elusive animals.

Arapawa Sheep

The Arapawa Sheep are a breed of feral sheep found primarily on Arapaoa Island in the Marlborough Sounds. They are thought to have habituated the island for over 200 years.

They are not large sheep but lean and light boned, together with their long legs make them very active sheep which survive in very steep and hostile terrain. Their most common colouring is black. Rams have spiralled horns which can be over a meter in length.

Arapawa Sheep are hunting all year round.
