Shearer's Quarters

Authentic accommodation in the backcountry

Mount Cook Station Shearer's Quarters is rustic early 1900s accommodation with views of Lake Pukaki, the Jollie and Tasman River flats and the Southern Alps. It is situated on the northern side of the Jollie river, close to the main homestead.

It was built originally for the shearers when they came onto the station to shear the sheep. It has recently been extensively renovated with a new kitchen and bathrooms and a two-bedroom extension.

Nearby, Bill's Hut is a little stroll from the shearer's quarters and acts as the 5th bedroom. Bill's Hut is named after Bill Seymour, who, during the early 1900s, was a long-time shepherd/manager on Mt Cook Station. This is where he slept after his long day mustering.

The Shearers Quarters and Bill's Hut can be rented as 1,2,3,4, or 5 bedrooms with shared facilities.

Limited to no mobile phone coverage, but there is Wifi available.

During winter months snow may make the access roads impassable or chains may be required.

The station is approx 40mins – 1-hour travel from Lake Tekapo Township along mostly gravel roads. See directions here.

Mount Cook Station does not have direct access to Mount Cook Village, which is situated on the other side of Lake Pukaki and the Tasman River. This will take you approx 1.5-hours drive to get there.
